In the beginning I designed a cutesy Halloween site and started applying for web awards to get feedback. Many people explained that I had a good sense of design but my content was shallow and thin. I needed to rethink what HallowFreaks was to be and improve it. I wanted a member driven online community for Halloween lovers, a site rich in resources. It needed to be original without the same tired, cheesy, animated graphics and content mostly taken from other people's websites.
Over the years HallowFreaks has undergone a number of changes such as layout, features and content. While I managed to build a small web community of great people through top site lists and webrings, it was not enough to really build a social network. I continued to author content and build the resources of HallowFreaks but neglected to concentrate on the community element of the site and it's potential. In 2008 I was able to develop HallowFreaks to be what I had orginally wanted from the beginning. HallowFreaks is my baby. My way of hoping to educate people and celebrate the joy of Halloween and spooky living with everyone. HallowFreaks is a place where freaky people like me can play and be cooky, spooky and all together ooky.
Important Note: This site could not have been possible without the support of my family and close friends who have endured my Halloween obsession. There has been much time spent in discussion of the site, it's features, design, function and content. My friends have contributed opinions, graphics, stock photos, web templates, illustrations, front-end test time, not to mention a lot of thick red blood pouring from their ears after listening to me talk about this crap for hours.
